Sight through ocular violence

Declaration of Purpose.

SITE Squad — Shot in the Eye Squad

We are people who were shot in the eye by police and other law enforcement.

We first found each other in the aftermath of the 2020 George Floyd protests, when dozens of us across the United States were hit in the face with so-called “less lethal” rounds. What began as a group chat has continued since—growing as more survivors find their way to each other, in the U.S. and beyond.

We lost eyes.
We lost sight.
We lost pieces of our lives.

But we found each other.

In this space by and for survivors and their families:
We share what we’ve learned—medical, legal, how to get through the day. We support each other in real time. We document these cases so they cannot be erased. We create a collective memory so that we can push for accountability, for repair, and for an end to state sponsored ocular violence.

We are not alone. People are being blinded by police all over the world. We are part of this global community, building bonds of solidarity that cross borders.

This is not a charity.
This is not a law firm

This is not a space for professional medical care.

This is people showing up for each other.
This is community.

Being in the street—protesting, watching, existing—should not end in mutilation. But it has. And it continues.

If you’re reading this and you’ve gone through something similar—if you’re a survivor looking for others who understand—reach out.

We’re here.

While we cannot give you back what was taken, you don’t have to go through this alone.

See. Resist. Transform.
